Sergeant Ronald Leigh Donohoe

Early Life
Ronald was born in Southampton on 24 May 1919. He was the son of Edward and Florence Donohoe of Netley, Hampshire. Edward was a shipping clerk with the railways. Ronald had at least two sisters, Nora and Joan.
Whilst at school he was centre forward for the school first XI. He was top scorer in 1934 and noted as being an 'excellent shot with both feet and has used his head very well indeed'.

Military Career
Ronald served with the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) and was attached to 5 Field Ambulance, Royal West African Frontier Force (service number 7364397). It was a mobile medical unit supporting 81 Infantry Division RWAFF.

Ronald was killed in action during fighting in the Kaladan Valley on the India/Burma border on 7 February 1944.
His fellow mess members raised a memorial stone to him in Stoneham Cemetery in Hampshire.
Ronald's body was never recovered and he is remembered on the Rangoon Memorial, Myanmar (Face 18).
